Temora held the first of its cup carnival race meetings on Saturday 4th March with Ladbrokes Temora GBOTA Cup 457m heats the main event of the night as well as heats of the Molly Harmer Memorial 330m best 16 and Temora Shire Council Maiden 457m. A good night with the weather cooling down and the track in great order. A large crowd gathered to watch some exciting racing under lights.

The night started with Race 1, the first heat of the Molly Harmer Memorial Best 16 heat 1 330m, a good line up of top grade dogs to contest this heat , the winner was IT’S MY TIME for Brian Smith from The Rock in a time of 19.37 winning by 3 ¾ lengths from TIMMY MAC and TAIL PIPE, 4th DANA KIS who will also make the final.

It’s My Time trialled good here the previous week, one to look at in the final. A good each way bet.

Race  2, Temora Shire Council Maiden Heat 1- 457m, A visiting trainer and dog took out this race in a time of 26.53. Lynette Keep from Worongary won with CAPTAIN ZERO by 9 ¾ lengths to 2nd place getter, MY GIRL BLACK and 3rd HYMIE BLACK.

A good time for a maiden over the 457m and a good chance in the final next Sunday. Handling the dog is Andrew Stollery pictured bottom

Race 3, first heat of the Ladbrokes Temora GBOTA Cup- 457m, was a smashing heat with the winner equalling the track record. Gregory Schofield from Craigieburn came to Temora many years ago and hasn’t been back since. His returning visit to Greyhound Park after 25-30 years proved a good move as his dog NANGAR RANGE won in a blistering time of 25.90 from the one box beating the rest of the field by 7 lengths, 2nd CHIEF RUSSLER and 3rd TULLABUNG ROCK . Nangar Range is likely to be the favourite in the final next Sunday 12th March by all punters

Race 4, Temora Shire Council Maiden Heat 2- 457m, Was another visiting trainer who took out the race -HILLBILLY CASEY won for Peter Carr from St. Fillans in 27.06 winning by 4 lengths to HYMIE CAPE and BLACK JACK RYAN. This being the fastest heat of the Temora Shire Council heats and will be the dog to watch in the final next Sunday

Race 5,   Ladbrokes Temora GBOTA Cup- 457m Heat 2- was taken out by NOAH’S FUSION for Kylie McDonald of  Springside  by ¾ length in a time of 26.30 beating BEEGUMBAH RUMBA and SLAMMING THUNDER.

The McDonald family are regular visitors to the Temora track and their dogs know the track well which will give her a chance in the final if she gets the right draw

Race 6, Temora Shire Council Maiden Heat 3- 457m- Saw Vicki Prest from Young take out the final heat of the T.S.C Maiden 457m with MARRI DEN in 26.83. This dog trialed better last week and will hopefully improve on this run. 2nd, HOT PEARL and 3rd AMARINA NITRO

Race 7, Molly Harmer Memorial Best 16 Heat 2 330m, The best time of the two heats running 19.14. BEEGUMBAH BURST won for Bradley Ashton of Young beating TIGGERLONG BOO and MY WRECKER by 3 ¾ of a length.  The fourth dog home was SILVER WING who will also get into the final and has won 3 of its last four starts, one for punters to look at on Sunday.    Beegumbah Burst  has won 15 of his race starts and has won plenty of races here at Temora, he is the only FFA dog in the field.

Race 8, Ladbrokes Temora GBOTA Cup- 457m Heat 3- Neil Staines from Yass won the 3rd heat with VINCE FAWN in 26.38 by 2 lengths to the 2nd dog JOCK COLLEY and 3rd MARTAM GOLD.

Neil can produce a good dog and have it at its peak condition at the right time, so hopefully he will be up there in the final and run in the placings. Will probably be a good price and can have a good each way punt on this runner.

Race 9, Ladbrokes Temora GBOTA Cup- 457m Heat 4-  Michael Clayton from Sutton Forest has been trialling at the track a lot of late getting his dogs use to the track and fit enough to run on the large one turn track, I’ts paid off with a few winners over the last couple of race meetings. Here he won with SLICK SIMZY running 26.14 beating the rest by ½ length in a good time. POPPA OGG trained by Darren Sultana came 2nd and TOKEN CODE trained by Domenico Lauricella came in 3rd. Could be a placing chance or even a winner if the box draw suits on Sunday.

Race 10, Ladbrokes Temora GBOTA Cup- 457m Heat 5- TO THE GALO’S won by 1 ½ lengths for trainer Philip Smith in a time of 26.55, beating NORMIE’S BOY and RUSTY TOWBAR. This is his 3rd win in as many starts for To the Galo’s and he could be a surprize chance in the final.

Temora’s next meeting is on Tuesday night with first race at 7pm, then it’s onto the Cup Final’s night on Sunday.
